Summer Splash: Boy Scouts Host Water Carnival for Community Members
The Monmouth Council of the Boy Scouts of America is hosting its 2nd Annual Water Carnival at the Quail Hill Scout Reservation in Manalapan on Saturday, July 18. The event is open to the public and will feature activities in the camp's pool, lake, and campgrounds for children and families.
Event chairperson Rick Pereira said the Reservation will host thirty to forty packs of Cub Scouts from around Monmouth County, along with families, friends, and people from their communities. More than 300 people are expected to attend.
"It's a good way for everyone to get together at least once in the summer," said Pereira, also a den leader in Howell's local Pack #550. "We have Cub Scout volunteers running the event, and everyone gets a chance to have fun."
Quail Hill Scout Reservation offers weeklong summer camps and winter camping grounds for area Boy Scouts, but is open to the public for community events like the Water Carnival. Pereira noted that everyone is invited to come out and enjoy the water
"We hold this event to bring together scouts, non-scouts and their families to give them a chance to get wet, have fun, and experience one of the many kinds of positive programs that scouting has provided for kids for nearly 100 years," Pereira stated.
The carnival will feature water balloon games, row boats, a slip-n-slide, pool relays, and a fire hose brigade run by local fire departments. Scouts will have a chance to earn water merit badges, and families can enjoy a lunch included in the price of admission. The first 200 Cub Scouts to register will receive a free water patch. Admission is $8 per person, or $20 per family. Children are encouraged to wear lace-up shoes and a bathing suit and to bring a towel.
