Neighborhood Block Party “Terrific”
An anonymous user sent us this tip (through that Contact Colleen box over on the right sidebar), about how successful the block party at Conover and Marcy Streets was this weekend. We love having community organizations and residents send us their news (just send us your names so we can give credit, too!)
Check it out:
A terrific community event too place today on Marcy Street in the Borough. The Neighborhood Pride Committee hosted a Block Party for the residents of Marcy and Conover Streets to cap off the joint improvements made in the neighborhood by the Borough of Freehold and the NPC.
In addition to repaving Conover Street, NPC members went door to door in the area over the summer and developed a list of municipal projects recommended by the residents of Marcy and Conover Streets. These included new signage, improved lighting, sidewalk repairs, code enforcement issues, brush cleanup, etc. In addition, Habitat for Humanity's "Brush with Kindness" has also been contacted to help a few homeowners on the street do some minor repairs such as painting and minor carpentry repairs.
At the block party, members of the NPC cooked and served hamburgers, hot dogs and various dessert items.
Rita's Ices donated tubs of italian ices to add to the cup cakes, snack chips and other treats from Sam's. Freehold Jewelers donated the use of a popcorn maker with popcorn, butter and salt. Mark Lamhut donated his services as the DJ, spinning great music throughout the afternoon.
The Freehold YMCA sent along youth counselors and games for children.
About 100 residents of the area attended and seemed to have a great time.

This is great news, Colleen! That’s a lot of people this event attracted and it sure sounds like it was a great time. It’s also nice to see how many people donated things and time for the residents of that block.

whats sad about this is the bashing of this event on the freehold voice site. sad when a group puts something lovely togehter like this and a group or people with special “interest” want to make it look bad for elections. Congrats to the group who ran this and Marc LeVine…nice job

Mrosseel,
Get your facts straight. There was no bashing of this event on the Freehold Voice site. Being that I am the only one who commented I must make clear that I praised the NPC and the hard work they do.
Claiming that anything I wrote was for any special interest or for the sake of the elections is a flat out lie and distortion on your part or any other who may make that claim.
If anything I wrote was wrong, I will happily fix it if someone can provide facts. I always do.

Brian,
you want me to get my facts straight. Obviously im not the only one who thinks your post are alittle one sided…maybe “facts” is the issue with some of your post.

Folks,
I’m glad to see we are interested in having political discussions on the site. I might remind everyone that we’re putting together a candidates debate, and you can ask your questions to the candidates directly through our Ask the Candidates page.
Please keep in mind this isn’t a message board, and while we encourage community users to post, we’d like to keep the positive, constructive atmosphere we currently have in our comment discussions. No personal beefs here.
Also, it’s best if you register and post with your real name. Social media works best when tied to real identities, and we’re shooting for a brand new form of productive social media on the site.
Thanks,
Colleen

Colleen,
Sorry for the carry over from the FV. I believe it is in bad taste for any of us to come here and discuss another site. Feel free to delete my posts here. No offense will be taken by me.
Pertaining to your site, I agree that people should post questions under the ask the candidate section. This will be a terrific event for the people of Freehold Borough. I am far more interested in seeing this event done than I am in supporting any of the candidates. AS I have written before, we are fortunate to have four stand up people running this year. I know and like all of them.
As developments on this debate continue, I will of course use the FV to drive traffic to your site. Keep up the good work.
Brian

Colleen, i apologize to you if you feel these posts are negative. You have to understand where Glazier and myself are coming from. FV did clearly declare the event as unsuccessful. and said attendance was poor. Thats not true and is horrible reporting. i agree that post on here should be positive, but people are entitled to know the facts and not what mr miller wants us to think!

So glad Leah D. posted that message. Shows that the reports of poor attendance by another site were false and people had a nice time. Hats of to the NPC, seems like the people really enjoyed themselves and are looking forward to another great event soon. These few people posting how things are, are finally getting a taste of reality! People arent going to stand for lies in post(not on this site) anymore!

Glad you’re interested in the debate! Anyone can submit questions here on the site and in drop-boxes that will be placed around town (probably at the library). The League of Women Voters will screen the questions for presentation to the candidates.
