‘Jersey’ Trend in Reality TV Comes to Freehold

With MTV's hit show Jersey Shore winding down its first season, some might be worried about a dearth of reality TV showing off the state's finest. But fear not, TV fans: the Oxygen network has announced the latest Jersey reality show to hit the airwaves, focused on our own Freehold Township.

Diane & Co., a dress boutique on Route 9 in Freehold Township that specializes in prom gowns, will be the center of attention for Oxygen's new reality show Jersey Couture.

The fashion relaity series will focus on store owner Diane Scali and her family as they match up "over the top dresses" with "every girl's special event needs," according to a release by the network.

From the release:

"With a no nonsense attitude, the Scali family's extravagant dress store is the premiere glamour stop in New Jersey. Get ready for the Cinderella experience of a lifetime. Whether it's for her bride's maid's needs or her high school prom frills, when it comes to 'what to wear' to that elegant affair, no one gets the job done like the ladies at Diane & Co."

I’ve taken my daughters to this store on a few occasions because from a distance the window display looked interesting. The store is cramped and the dresses are full of sequins and glitz. Not at all the place to go if you are looking for a classic, elegant dress or gown. However, if you are a fan of the Jersey Shore “reality” show, this might be the place for you to find the dress of your dreams.

I just bought my sweet 16 prom dress from this store today. The girls are great. They even helped me pick my party theme. Definetly a one stop shop. And most definetly NOT for the Jersey Shore crowd.

I’m not holding my breath about yet another “reality” show that is not a contest show. In the release, the “get ready for the Cinderella experience of a lifetime,” suggests it will focus on and feature the spoiled, entitled, fake girls who whine, curse, say the word “like” a hundred times in a Minnie Mouse voice because they don’t have a vocabulary, and generally act like barnyard animals because their parents have not taught them manners or what true class is really all about. But then again, nobody tunes into a show that demonstrates truly good behavior. It’s all about showcasing bad behavior and people who want to desperately “get famous” without actually having talent.

Oh, and the Oxygen Network is also home to “Bad Girls Club.”

I think the “Cinderella experience” quote is referring to the first episode, which will feature the Cinderella’s closet fashion show at the PNC Bank Arts Center.

That event sounds simply wonderful. Can we have more info on that charity fashion show? Can people still donate to this? Thanks, Lauren.

I am from NJ- I am looking for this show to bring a plus to New Jersey. How can we all judge without first seeing. Lets decide AFTER episode 1- My list for a good show: People I want to see, styles I want to copy and possibly a good looking guy……. (no juicy heads please)

I think for a show to bring a “plus” to New Jersey is to focus on the many great women, men and teens who are making a difference, volunteering and changing lives for the better, not a show matching “over the top dresses for every girl’s special event,” like this isn’t all over every other cable network.

It’s no wonder there are so many NJ jokes around the country. Look at the way we are portrayed in these reality shows! First there was “Housewives”, then “Jersey Shore” and now this “Jersey Couture”? I have lived in NJ my entire life and fortunately, I do not know any native New Jerseyans who are anything like the people in these shows. I grew up at the Jersey Shore and the people in the show are like the bennies we had to endure every summer. I agree with Lisa S. The new reality shows are nothing but trash tv.

I am a mom of 3 St John Vianney High School girls (Fr, Jr & Sr) my daughter is actually participating in an upcoming charity event on Jan 29th at the PNC Art Center called Cindarella’s Closet. The organization is put together by teens who want to give back to the community. Diane & Co made a donation, is donating gowns to young girls that may not be able to afford attending prom and they are also ending the event with a fashion show using local HS girls in the show. I think you will be pleasantly suprised. They are a close family with integrity-nothing like that teen jersey show. They were generous with their time and I support them

I am from Marlboro NJ. Shopped at this boutique for cocktail attair- large selection and the staff is super sweet. It’s a mother and twin daughters that run the shop. Prices are definetly couture, and the selection in diverse. Will make for great TV. As soon as you walk in they have a dress picked out.

i need to stand up for us jersey girls because everyone’s idea of us is not true at all.
i live in the same area of diane & co. and i am not spoiled nor do i have spoiled friends. i’m also top in my class with a VERY good vocabulary. there is no reason to make such harsh and rude assumptions before even seeing the first episode. most of the girls in this area (especially including diane, her family and her staff) are not anywhere near dumb, spoiled, or bratty like some people are assuming.

Jenna, my post, to which you are referring, had nothing to do with you, but everything to do with the current trends in Reality TV production. Nowhere in my post did I specifically degrade this retailer.

BTW, the shift key is the one responsible for capitalizing the first words in sentences. And you’re in the top of your class?

I totally agree, Jenna. There are thousands of awesome young men and women in NJ. I meet them all the time! It’s a matter of Reality TV producers flipping to the other side of the coin and deciding to celebrate excellent young role models! So…maybe we all just have to tell our stories in other ways! FinJ is a great place to start.

Meanwhile, I really do wish Diane and Co. the best of luck and success. Through the years I’ve heard many wonderful compliments about the quality of their dresses and their personal touch.

When is this show supposed to air? The show “Jersey Shore” has left a bad taste in the mouths of some people. Maybe this show will be different, I hope so anyway, I dont live in Seaside so I really dont care what happened there but I do live in Freehold and for the most part we are “real” people here in good ol’ Freehold, I hope its a good show! Good Luck! :-)
